INNOVATE project PART II

We are going GREEN with Cameron Park ZOO...

March 17, 2012- It’s Easy Being Green
Join us on St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March 17th, as we celebrate conservation and “being green”.  Come on over to Cameron Park Zoo and enjoy conservation activities that focus on animals, the environment and how to conserve our green spaces. The Zoo is sponsoring this day to remind people how important it is to recycle what we can and cut down on waste.

The girls were invited to attend and to giveaway their reusable sandwich bags and educate others on the importance of recycling.  Please let me know if your daughter can attend this event so that I can obtain a wristband for her by tomorrow!  She should arrive at the zoo at 9:30am and be picked up at 2:00pm.   Also, if you have a sewing machine and can sew up a few of the sandwich bags before next Saturday, I will gratefully accept help!  We were able to get them all cut out but only about 60 of them are finished.  In addition, another big THANK YOU to everyone who brought supplies for the bags!  The project only cost our troop about $20.

Innovate project underway...

We spent 2 1/2 hours today cutting, sewing, pinning, and planning for our first ever INNOVATE project.  We studied energy, recycling, and more and decided to educate our community on the differences they can make for our environment by using recyclable sandwich and snack bags instead of ziploc bags.  Did you know that they can take anywhere from 20 to 1000 years to decompose in the landfill?  The girls are excited to be a part of this worthwhile cause and the bags that we made today show all their hard work...and especially all the hard work from the moms (and grandma) who helped with sewing and supervising the project!  We had scissors and straight pins floating around everywhere and we still had no injuries!  Yay!  I can't wait til March 17th for the girls to share all they've learned and the bags that they made.
Have a wonderful spring break!....If you are in Austin by chance on March 12th (the actual 100 year anniversary of Girl Scouts) be sure to head to the capital building to celebrate with Girl Scouts from all over the state.  Be careful and have fun!
